  28. This is exactly what I do NOT want to see happen early on, although
  29. such namespaces are going to occur in the fullness of time.

  31. What I want to
  32. see first is the use of internationally standardized namespaces such
  33. as ISBN for on-line access to books, ISSN/SICI for access to magazine,
  34. journal, and newspaper articles; ISAN for access to video programs and
  35. movies; ISWC/ASCAP/BMI identifiers for access to music; UPC for access
  36. to product descriptions, etc. National Standards bodies, such as ANSI,
  37. and industry associations, such as the EIA, may also have developed
  38. namespaces we could support.
  39.  
  40. The Fortune 500 already make use of one or more of these namespaces
  41. for particular purposes (especially UPC).
  42.  
  43. Until we come up with the procedures for registering company-specific
  44. namespaces and dealing with the inevitable conflicts over trademark-style
  45. issues, I want to err on the side of caution.
